The Advisory Council for General Surgery, a standing committee of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), is attempting to address the needs of rural surgeons through a variety of initiatives, spearheaded by its subcommittee on rural surgery. The mission statement of the subcommittee is"...to improve patient access to quality surgical care in the rural setting by identifying and addressing the needs of surgeons in this unique environment."
