Despite the political and economic turmoil around the world the apparent steel use is expected to grow by 6.5% in 2011, indicated the World Steel Association in its Short Range Outlook (SRO) for 2011. This increase will take the usage up to 1,398 mmt in 2011 after rising 15.1% in 2010 to 1.312 mmt. It expects apparent steel use to rise to 1.473 billion tons in 2012 with the demand growing further by 5.4%.
