Medication administration is a high-risk core function in a health care setting involving multiple disciplines. The processes involved in the delivery of medication to a patient require precision, communication, and meticulous attention to detail by hospital staff. The administration of medication has tremendous implications if done incorrectly.Medication errors are not uncommon in health care. By some estimates, at least 2 million people every year are harmed by errors, which cost the U.S. an extra dollar3.5 billion annually in extra hospital costs alone.
