Having a blast: Fishing is a dangerous profession everywhere in Alaska, but fishing in the Aleutian Islands poses some unique risks, as the crew of the 124-foot Aleutian Sable recently discovered. The boat was hauling black cod pots just outside the Port of Dutch Harbor when they pulled up a rusty World War II bomb. Seventy years underwater had corroded the metal so badly that none of the deckhands recognized it for what it was — that is, until they cut into it with a knife. Inside a layer of rust, they found two tags. One read, "BOMB." The other was a tag instructing the operator to "remove seal before assembling vane to fuse."
