We are always looking for ways to save on fuel consumption. Many factors influence fuel consumption. One of the most important is the maintenance of the engine and the fuel system. Always follow the manufacturer's recommendations for service intervals. Do not try to squeeze extra hours out of the fuel injectors. That will cost you in extra fuel. A fuel injector nozzle wears by increasing the diameter of the holes in the nozzle, gradually deforming the shape of each hole. The spring in the injector body also will slowly lose some of its tension. This will slowly reduce the atomization of the fuel into the combustion chamber, resulting in incomplete combustion. When this happens, you will not get the performance/BTU /KW you need out of your engine. One good indicator is when the exhaust from your engine is starting to show a darker color. The exhaust from a well-tuned engine should just be visible as a light sheen in the air when it comes out of the exhaust pipe. How fast the injector nozzles wear out depends on how clean the fuel you are burning is. Check and service the fuel system and related components after each season, so you are ready for the next.
