Mid-summer fisheries arrived -- as did about 44 million sockeyeto Bristol Bay -- at about the same time middle summer arrivedvia the thermometer. The date of most annual warming, based upon a multiyear average, came on July 19 in Fairbanks, meaning the air then began tocool until sometime next winter. In Anchorage, the date is July 29. Surrounded by the ocean, Adak'srush toward winter comes in late August, according to the University of Alaska's Geophysical Institute.
