摘要

Where would fish be more numerous — closer to ports or farther away? The answer, of course, is farther away, where there's less fishing pressure. But the obvious isn't worth much if it isn't proven in a scientific study, and on the North Coast of California, it has been. The results were announced at Eureka's Woodley Island Marina a few weeks back, when the Humboldt County Harbor District sponsored a presentation on a two-year effort to measure the effects of fishing on age composition, diversity, and abundance of fish. The study's methods included collecting fish — primarily black rockfish — by angling in various areas throughout the North Coast region.
