In response to a more rigorous market demanding shorter delivery times, constantly varying lot sizes and a higher value-added product, Georgsmarienhutte GmbH decided to modernise their bar mill located in Georgsmarienhutte, Germany, as part of a major expansion project. This included the addition of a new finishing rolling mill featuring the 3-roll technology, a new cooling bed with its corresponding finishing line as well as special equipment meant to perform temperature-controlled rolling. These improvements had a positive impact not only on the quality of the finished product manufactured by this mill, but especially on increasing the flexibility with which the plant responded to market demand, maximising at the same time the overall economy of the mill. The operating results of the modernised mill confirm that all the targets defined for this expansion project have been thoroughly achieved.
