An Iranian film festival, an event quite rare anywhere outside the Middle East country, was counted a success when held in Tokyo last fall. Some of the 32 Iranian films, shown over a three-week period, attracted overflowing crowds. "That was a pleasant surprise, although we had expected a fairly good response because of a surge in public interest in films from Iran," observes Etsuko Dohi, who served as secretary-general for the festival.
