The combar the drying problems caused by surface contamination,a ReDoc system has been developed to clean and maintain the surface of drying cylinders.In a Finnish speciality mill,after 250 hours of operation,ReDoc removed a 3.3 micrometer layer of pigments and fibre from the surface of Cylinder NO4.The layer had been insulating the cylinder and impairing heat transfer to the paper web.Surface contamination is an increasing problem because of the high steam pressures and closed cycles of a modern papermaking line.Conventional doctoring systems are not achieving the required degree of cleanliness;and,they can leave dirt streaks on the cylinder surface-streaks which lead to deviations in both surface temperature and web moisture profiles.
