Although airports are striving to enhance passenger facilitation and security flows, other transportation industry stakeholders operating on their premises differ in their own service and security priorities. Airlines, airports and ground handlers rate seamlessness and speed as major objectives for passenger transit through the airport. They have developed intertwined processes, mixing e-ticketing, CUSS and internet-based services, with the dual aim of reducing distribution costs and facilitating check-in and boarding. A first generation of airport-operated fast tracks has been successfully implemented, yet process scalability and interoperability remain elusive.
