Believe it or not, just over a year ago, this show stopper was set to be torn apart for spares. Now it's been given a new life as one man's pride and joy. Hard to believe, isn't it? Looking at these pictures, you would never have guessed that less than two years ago this car was preparing to meet its maker. Believe us, it's an even more astounding fact when you've seen the car in the flesh. This is easily one of the cleanest Escort Cosworths in the country and, but for one man, it might not even exist today. That man is Gary Mitchell. Gary's no stranger to rescuing cars from the jaws of the crusher; he makes his living by buying in repairable cars - MoT failures, minor prangs and the like -before doing the work that's needed to a high standard, and then selling them on again for a profit. He started doing it when he was in his teens, and indeed, one of the first cars he did it with was a Mk2 Escort, so his association with cool Fords is nothing new. "That was my first car," Gary remembers. "It was only a 1300. But I did it up - put the rubber spoiler on, nice wheels, new interior... I aspired to an RS2000 back then - that's still one of those cars I'd love to own!" However, in recent years his head has been turned by another classic - his Triumph Stag. "That was a childhood dream. I'd just always wanted to own one," Gary says.
