"I wanted to keep it basic," smiled Alice Turnock, "but you know what it's like." Regular readers will know by now that the old, 'I wanted to keep it simple' line is something of a recurring theme with our feature car owners. It's a story we've heard countless times before here at PVW. In fact, I'd bet that if we were to go back and flick through all the notebooks we've collected over the years, speaking to owners and writing features, the wanted to keep it simple but it got out of hand' line would appear more than any other; after all, we all know how addictive this Dubbing game can be. Building a car, at any level, is never a one time, in-and-out deal. There's always something else to do, something else that needs sorting and, usually, a constant stream of new ideas and new parts to fit. But, more often than anything else, it's the desire to keep pushing things forward, to take things further and to reach that top tier on either the showground or the track that drives people to ditch their once simple plans and go all out. As we said before, this Dubbing game is addictive and unfortunately, we don't know of any cure, rehab or detox plan that can help. It seems that once those keys are in your hand, there really is no help, no matter how good your intentions are. If all that sounds a little close to home, spare a thought for Alice here. As a member of the E38 crew and partner of E38 crew member Wayne Russell, and living in E38 central, Northampton, to boot, Alice didn't stand a chance in sticking to her plans to keep her Polo simple when she got it.
