The pecan industry said goodbye to one of its finest in December with the passing of Harold Pape of Seguin, Texas. Harold passed away on Dec. 10, 2013, at the age of 80, after a long battle with cancer. His family reported that "he came into this lifeon the same land on which he left this earth, on his family's home place in Monthalia."Funeral services were held Dec. 13 at the Monthalia United Methodist Church. Harold is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Jennifer Pape.Known nationwide within the pecan industry, Harold was a vital partner in the Pape Pecan Company of Seguin, Texas, along with his cousin Kenneth Pape, where he spent a career buying and selling pecans, serving as a chemical and equipment dealer, and representing the company at pecan conventions and events throughout the U.S., in addition to many other roles. He was a lifetime member of the Texas Pecan Growers Association and served on TPGA's Board of Directors.
