Helen Robertson, LONDON: The Freeport Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project has received a $1.2 billion funding boost from Japanese utility companies Osaka Gas and Chubu Electric. Freeport LNG said the new investment would fund the first of three proposed liquefaction trains for the project on Quintana Island near Freeport, Texas. The company secured funding for the second train and an LNG loading facility in December when fund manager IFM investors pledged $1.3 billion. The project is being developed by Freeport LNG Development, which owns and operates an existing LNG regasification terminal located near Freeport.
