The minutes of Tony Hayward's town hall meeting in Houston revealed a company in trouble and a chief executive on the war path. Last month, he announced a new strategy to bring a "fundamental shift in the way BP works". Bluntly titled Agenda to Close Performance Gap with Rivals, the strategy will simplify the firm's structure and ensure "resources are increasingly shifted to the frontline with operating managers freed from corporate bureaucracy and the burden of unnecessary overheads".
