摘要

Sesame (Sesamum Indicum L.) is one of the world's oldest oil crops and has been cultivated in Asia since ancient times. The breeding potential of the germplasm accessions held worldwide has hardly been exploited to date. The major hindrance for the utilization of these genetic resources has been the transfer of diversity into a form that can be easily used by breeders and farmers. Keeping this objective in view, a core collection of world sesame germplasm accessions (over 2,100 accessions) held in Israel, and now also maintained in genebanks at Kenya, Korea, and India, was developed to facilitate its efficient management and effective use in crop improvement. The comparison of the core set with entire collection indicated that the sampling done wasoptimal and the diversity has been represented well in the core collection.
