Sixty four true breeding mutants of urdbean along with five commercial cultivars and the parental genotype were evaluated at two locations. About 35 mutants were found promising for one or more characters in comparison with one or more checks at one or both of the locations. Of the four foliar fungal diseases, 27 mutants were found to be resistant for one or more diseases as compared with the checks. The mutant 93/2 was superior for seed yield per plant than all the checks and the promising mutants at both the locations. Besides, it was also resistant to Cercospora curenta, Colletotrichum truncatum, and Ascochyta phaseolorum under field conditions at both the locations. The mutant 13/1 was dwarf, having early maturity, and possessing resistance to Cercospora canescens. The other desirable mutants identified were 12/1, 94/1, and 61/1. All these mutants are required to be evaluated in replicated trials at multilocation to confirm their superiority in comparison with the checks.
