The Standard Model of particle physics gives a remarkably successful description of the particles and interactions that we have been able to measure at particle colliders. Our current picture of the subatomic world includes three "generations" of quarks and leptons, together with the gauge bosons that mediate the strong, weak, and electromagnetic forces (Table 1).
