摘要

First and Foremost I am thankful to the CAP for this recognition of our combined adventures in soft materials research. It was a thrill to even be nominated for the award, and a huge surprise and unbelievable honour to be chosen as this years co-recipients of the Brockhouse medal. I thank Michel Gingras for thinking highly enough of our work to put us forward for the award. I am indebted to the various funding agencies (NSERC, CFI, etc) that have provided the equipment and other funding necessary to realize my research ambitions. I thank all my colleagues and collaborators at the University of Waterloo for making it a great place to do research. I am also very grateful to be a researcher in Canada, where we have been allowed so much freedom to pursue our own research interests without having to be directed by the strategic goals of a company, government, or funding agency. There is no doubt that our colleagues around the world envy this aspect of being a Canadian researcher.
