Sweet potato (Ipomoea batatus) crops in Guadeloupe have been infested with the weevil Cylas formicarius since the beginning of the 2000s, although various other Caribbean countries were colonised by the pest earlier; maps are included showing the extent of distribution of the pest in the region, and in Guadeloupe itself - both on the food crop I. batatas and on the ornamental I. pes-caprae. This paper describes the biology of the pest, its trapping using nets and pheromones, its spread and studies on means of control (pheromone trapping and various cultural practices).
