Degradation Dynamics of Propineb (Antracol 70 WP) in Onion and Soil

A supervised field trial was conducted on onion with propineb (Antracol 70WP) @ 1225 and 2450 g ai ha~(-1), applied thrice at 10 days interval. Propineb residues were estimated spectrophotometrically at 435 nm in terms of CS2. The limit of quantification (LOQ) of propineb was found to be 0.2 mg kg~(-1) for green onion leaves, immature and mature onion bulb. The initial deposit of propineb in green onion leaves ranged from 5.34-11.72 mg kg~(-1) for lower and higher doses, respectively, and dissipated by 95% within 10 days. The half-life value were ~2.3 days on green onion leaves and 2.8-2.9 days in soil. Considering the MRL value of 0.5 mg kg~(-1), the calculated safe waiting period was found to be 8.6 days (green onion leaves). No residue above LOQ could be quantified in immature onion bulb and mature onion bulb. Thus, propineb can be safely recommended in onion for the consumption of mature and immature onion bulb.
