EPA should be ordered to assess all potential cancer risks posed by exposure to atrazine, the Natural Resources Defense Council recently argued in a motion to a federal court. NRDC Oct. 14 submitted its motion to the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, which has jurisdiction over an EPA/NRDC consent decree requiring the agency to meet numerous FQPA implementation milestones. One of these was the Aug. 3, 2002 deadline for EPA to issue an Interim Reregistration Eligibility Decision for atrazine. TheNRDC agreed to extend the deadline (see PTCN, Aug. 20, 2002, Page 4) if EPA evaluated reports of cancer associated with exposure to the widely used herbicide.
