A Newton,Mass.environmental group is using the tactic of leaving a doorknob hanger detailing the dangers of pesticides to further its cause.Green Decade Coalition's Committee for Alternatives to Pesticides(GreenCAP)uses the notices to warn community members against the use of chemicals on lawns and gardens,and to recommend safer alternatives.Some members of GreenCAP only distribute a notice to homes with brightly colored flags stuck in the lawn indicating a pesticide treatment by a landscaping company.Other members of the organization blanket neighborhoods with the doorknob hangers,distributing the notices to every door.
