Can genetically engineered and organic crops coexist? That's the question posed by two agricultural economists in Choices magazine, a publication of the Agricultural & Applied Economics Association. Authors Catherine Greene and Katherine Smith, senior economists with USDA's Economic Research Service, note that a fast-growing market for organic food, and rapid adoption of genetically engineered crops by farmers, have occurred simultaneously in the United States over the past decade.
