The Organic Trade Association has written Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, urging him to maintain the current ban on planting Roundup Ready alfalfa at least until the department's final Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is completed next spring. Last month, 75 House members, including the chairman and ranking member of the Agriculture Committee, asked Vilsack to issue an interim permit for RR alfalfa planting this fall (see PTCN July 26, Page 22).
