A new law in New York requiring that all exams and training for the handling of pesticides be in both English and Spanish will go into effect in January.The bill,sponsored by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz(D-Brooklyn)and Sen.Carl Marcellino(R-Nassau County),is aimed at immigrant laborers who work on farms across the state and who face severe penalties for pesticide product misuse from the state Department of Agriculture if they are found to be not following the instructions on the product label or wearing the correct protective gear.
