Leaders of green chemistry efforts in California praised outgoing Department of Toxic Substances Control director Maureen Gorsen as a visionary and said the state's initiative will miss her leadership,but will continue moving forward.Gorsen,who had held the DTSC post for more than three years,submitted her resignation to Gov.Arnold Schwarzenegger(R)March 2,saying she wanted to return to private law practice.Her last day on the job was March 15.Prior to her appointment as director,Gorsen served as deputy secretary for law enforcement and general counsel at the California EPA;from 1993-98,she was general counsel for the California Resources Agency.
