摘要

A new study from researchers at the University of California, Berkeley's Center for Children's Environmental Health has shown children's increased vulnerability to organophosphate pesticides (OPs) may last longer than previously thought. The study, published online June 9 in Environmental Health Perspectives, examined the effects a child's age had on the activity of an enzyme known as paraoxonase 1 (PON1), which detoxifies OPs and has antioxidant properties. The researchers also assessed how a child's PON1 genetic profile affected the enzyme's activities at different ages.
