FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg will decide by Nov. 30 on the safety of bisphenol A, a decision that will rest in part on a new FDA study to be reviewed by government scientists, not FDA's own Science Board. Jess Goodman, FDA's acting chief scientist, shared the news at an Aug. 17 meeting of FDA's Science Board. Goodman said the agency would be evaluating studies to look into the potential risk of low-dose exposure from BPA and weigh new studies that may shine a light on the safety of BPA in food contact substances.
