EPA is moving forward with its plan to revoke all food tolerances for the pesticide carbofuran, which it finalized in May 2009. The insecticide cannot be applied to food crops after Dec. 31, 2009. "The evidence is clear that carbofuran does not meet today's rigorous food-safety standards," Steve Owens, assistant administrator for EPA's Office of Prevention, Pesticides and Toxic Substances, said in an Oct. 30 statement.
