EU agriculture ministers failed to reach agreement on a controversial regulation on pesticides last week in Brussels. After two years of deliberation on a proposal to amend the rules governing the marketing of pesticides, ministers at the May 19 Agriculture Council sent the file back to national experts in the Committee of Permanent Representatives (COREPER) for further analysis, after failing to agree on "cut-off or authorization criteria for substances.
