Pesticide&Toxic Chemical News recently sat down with Cal Dooley,the new head of the American Chemistry Council,to discuss some of the key issues confronting the chemical industry as well as his plans and goals for the organization.PTCN:Please tell us a little bit about your background and how you came to your current position as head of the American Chemistry Council.Dooley:I'm originally from California-our family has been out there for four,five generations.I was part of a farming family;I farmed in the Central Valley of California,halfway between Fresno and Bakersfield,prior to running for Congress in 1990.And then I spent 14 years in Congress where I focused a lot of attention on agricultural issues,obviously,but also on trade issues and technology issues and helped to organize the New Democrat Coalition,which we brought together as a group of pro-trade,pro-business Democrats.
