Rep. Jackie Speier (D-Calif.) on July 14 introduced legislation to establish a national primary drinking water regulation for perchlorate. The Safe Drinking Water for Healthy Communities Act of 2009 (H.R. 3206), which has 27 cosponsors, would require EPA to propose the regulation within 12 months of the bill's enactment and publish a final regulation within 18 months of that.
