The Senate Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs Committee voted unanimously last week to approve a three-year extension of the current Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) to Oct. 4, 2013. Committee Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-Conn.) expressed his support for inherently safer technology (1ST) and other provisions of the House-passed chemical security bill (H.R. 2868), but agreed to postpone consideration of those elements.
