EPA's National Center for Environmental Assessment (NCEA) has released new details about how it will conduct external peer reviews of candidate substances for the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) program and determine conflicts of interest among reviewers. The changes come a few months after the EPA's Office of Inspector General (OIG) recommended improvements to NCEA's handling of the peer review process and after a memorandum by EPA administrator Lisa Jackson announcing reforms to the IRIS program that promised more transparency and a shorter review process for substances.
