Toxic releases by U.S.companies continued a declining trend in 2003,according to the 16th annual Toxic Release Inventory (TRI) released May 11 by EPA.In reporting year 2003,23,811 facilities reported the generation of 4.44 billion pounds of nearly 650 toxic chemicals.EPA reported that more than 88% of the toxic waste was managed on-site of the generating facility,and the rest was sent to off-site treatment or disposal or emitted into the environment.
