Industry groups are blasting a recent Natural Resources Defense Council study on phthalates in air fresheners,accusing the group of using bad science and irresponsible scare tactics.After testing 14 brands of household air fresheners - one sample per brand - for 15 different phthalates,NRDC found that 12 brands contained detectable levels of one to five phthalates:dibutyl phthalate,diethyl phthalate,diisobutyl phthalate,dimethyl phthalate,and diisohexyl phthalate.The levels ranged from 0.12 ppm of dibutyl phthalate to 7,300 ppm of diethyl phthalate.
