Farm worker advocates are challenging EPA's recent re-registration decisions for the organophosphate insecticides azinphos-methyl (AZM),phosmet and chlorpyrifos,claiming the agency acted arbitrarily,capriciously and contrary to FIFRA.Five groups and one individual filed an amended complaint Feb.2 in the U.S.District Court for the Western District of Washington,part of an ongoing lawsuit filed in January 2004 challenging EPA's interim re-registration eligibility decisions (IREDs)for AZM and phosmet (see PTCN,Jan.19,2004,Page 8).
