Covington-Ashland Inc. last week disclosed that its joint venture with Cargill to develop and produce bio-based chemicals "has been suspended for the time being" because of "persistently high glycerin input costs." The two companies last year agreed to form an equally-owned venture "devoted solely" to bio-based chemicals (PCN, 14 May 07, p 4). Their first project was to be construction of a glycerin-fed 65,000-t/y high-grade propylene glycol plant at a European site.
