Manila-Philippine National Oil Co. has offered to sell its 40% interest in Petron Corp. to the Ashmore Group for 25.69-billion Philippine pesos (PCN, 22 Sept 08, p 2). Ashmore earlier this year acquired Saudi Aramco's 40% stake in Petron and, as part of its shareholders agreement, was given the "right of first offer" for Petron's holding. Since then, Ashmore has increased its interest in Petron to 50.57% with the acquisition of smaller investors' shares.
