Rio de Janeiro- Brazilian development bank BNDES said it has approved R$555.6-million in financing for Braskem's R$800.4-million polyethylene (PE) plant, which will be fed from renewable resources (PCN, 27 Apr 09, p 3). Braskem last month started construction on a project to use sugar cane ethanol to produce 200,000 t/y of ethylene, which will then be converted into 200,000 t/y of PE. The new PE plant, located at the company's Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul complex in Brazil, is scheduled to begin commercial production at the beginning of 2011.
