Seoul-LG Chem and Samsung Total are both planning to expand their South Korean capacity for ethylene, reported Reuters, citing industry sources. LG expects to shut down its 800,000-t/y Daesan cracker at the end of March 2011 for about 45 days to undertake maintenance and expansion, increasing ethylene capacity at the site to 900,000 t/y. LG recently expanded its Yeosu cracker to 1-million t/y from 900,000 t/y (PCN, 14 Dec 09, p 4).
