Triunfo-Braskem has started producing green polyethylene (PE) at its Triunfo petrochemical complex in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, where it recently started up its 200,000-t/y green ethylene plant (PCN, 20 Sept 2010, p 1). The 200,000-t/y green PE plant will use about 462-million liters/yr of ethanol, which will initially come from Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais and Parana. Braskem noted that the green PE has "the same properties and characteristics as conventional PE and can be processed by clients' equipment without the need for any adjustments."
