Rochester- Danisco's Genencor Division and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. have joined in a research collaboration to develop a new bio-based process for producing isoprene using renewable raw materials. The two companies are developing Biolsoprene, which they describe as a bio-based alternative for the petroleum-based isoprene that can be used for the production of synthetic rubber and could make the rubber industry less dependent on oil-derived products.
