St. Louis-Solutia Inc. has retained HSBC Securities (USA) Inc. to explore strategic alternatives for the company's nylon business, including a possible sale. Solutia, which on 28 Feb. 2008 emerged from Chapter 11 reorganization, in May announced that its Flexsys subsidiary would discontinue production at Ruabon, Wales, by the end of this year as part of a "portfolio optimization strategy" (PCN, 26 May 08, p 3).
