Chennai-Asset Reconstruction Co. of India (ARCIL) has instructed investment banking firm SSKI to identify potential buyers for Southern Petrochemical Industries Corp. (SPIC). SPIC, which has operations in four divisions including petrochemicals and fertilizers, as of March 2008 had debt totaling about Rs 2,567 crore, with ARCIL holding approximately 75% of that debt. In addition, SPIC will have to invest another Rs 300 crore to Rs 400 crore to convert its existing naphtha-fed production to gas-based as mandated by the Indian government.
