Brunei-MAN Ferrostaal AG, citing new allocations of natural gas in Brunei, said it is interested in investing in a petrochemical complex in Brunei's Sungai Liang Industry Park, the Brunei Times reported. Erwin Keuter, management board member, said the company began considering a petrochemical project in Brunei in 2000, but at that time gas for downstream projects was not available. However, he noted, 1-trillion cubic feet of gas has now become available, of which half has been allocated to Brunei Methanol Co. for an 850,000-t/y methanol plant at Sungai Liang (PCN, 21 Apr 08, p 2). "We hope to secure the other half," Keuter stated.
