Houston-Ineos Phenol, in response to current demand levels in the phenol and acetone market, said it has temporarily suspended cumene production at its 550,000-t/y facility in Port Arthur, Texas, with effect on 15 Apr. 2009. "Whilst we are seeing improvement in phenol and acetone demand this remains at a low level," explained Andreas Pohlmann, operations director at Ineos Phenol. "However the temporary closure helps us to secure the competitiveness of the business until markets recover, at which point we plan to re-start the unit."
