Riyadh-Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Co. (PetroRabigh) said there are no longer any detectable levels of methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE) in its Rabigh naphtha, Reuters reported. PetroRabigh, which has 1.3-million t/y of ethylene and 900,000 t/y of propylene capacity, recently confirmed that MTBE had been found in Rabigh naphtha, making it unsuitable for cracking in petrochemical facilities (PCN, 7 June 2010, p 4).
